In 2020, Yamaha introduced the new YBS-480 baritone saxophone to replace and upgrade from its 35-year-old model, the YBS-52, by incorporating the best design elements if its new YBS-62/82 models, minus their costlier features. The YBS-480, with direct post-to-body construction, and in keeping with Yamaha's top-down vertical design integration philosophy, has improved ease of tone control by having the same slightly shortened bell geometry of the YBS-62/82 models with which is shares its chassis, including the mount at the bottom for an optional floor peg. With drawn tone holes, stainless steel springs, leather pads, and flanged post mountings, the YBS-480 also includes the same low A as its stablemates, without the expense of engraving, blue steel springs, pearl touches, ribbing, customization options, and wheeled case. The complete retail kit includes Yamaha's ebony baritone mouthpiece, ligature, neck strap, cork grease, polishing cloth, and solid wooden case.
